Windows Live Writer

Cool Tool For The Blogger Dude

DOWNLOAD WINDOWS LIVE WRITER HERE

I’ve just installed the Windows Live Writer on my computer. What I have seen so far has truly impressed me.  I am using the program to write, edit and publish this post so I am going to put it to the test and look at all the features.

Windows Live Writer is a desktop program to edit and publish post directly from your computer to your blog.

  1. Windows Live Writer is currently compatible with:
  2. I found the program when I downloaded the new MSN Messenger.  It wanted to know if I wanted to install Windows Live Writer and I installed it.  Very fast and easy too.
  3. WLW acquires all the settings (css) from your blog and uses them as you write your post.  You do not need to be online to create your post but you do need to be connected to publish.  For me, that means I can create my post in advance in places I do not have the Internet connection, then upload them all when I am connected.
  4. Tags, categories, editing, spell-checker, insert picture/table/map/video/tags all included.
  5. The ability to post to one or more blogs is also included.  I can edit the date and time I wish for the post to publish also.  That is real cool.
  6. Let’s insert a picture here.  great baby pic It was easy to insert and resize by drag and drop.  An easy-to-use menu gave me instructions on how to place the image and how to have the text wrap around it.
  7. Now, after I upload, we will see where it stored the image and if it really works.  So far, this seems all too easy.
  8. (The picture is from Diane’s Place… one of my favorite blogs to read.)

As you see, the <ol> works good (ordered list above)

This is <ul> here below.

Unordered List

  • yes.. it is
  • it uses my bullets
  • the spell checker works great
  • I have a slow connection so if I can write my post offline and then upload when complete, it will make me happy.
  • end of unordered list
  • yes

This is a block quote.  Windows Live Writer is a desktop blog publishing application. It features What You See is What You Get (WYSIWYG) Authoring, Photo Publishing and Map Publishing.  The editor lets me see my post exactly like it will look when I post it (Size, style, text… everything).  That is more (allot more) than my default WordPress editor will do.

I can create tables too. Like this simple example
Very nice and easy. It’s got to be easy for me or I won’t endorse it.   LOL

A MAP?… lets try it…

So far, too cool.

Here are some inserted tags…

Technorati Tags: wlw,“windows live writer’,technorati

more tags…

Ok… I am surprised I did not know about this sooner.  I guess I am not in the loop as much as I thought.

I’m going to stick with this and see how it works.  If you try Windows Live Writer, let me know what you think.

OK… I will push the “Publish” button and……… wooooosh

Stumbleupon Stumble

Posted by: Gib@CBO | Comments (4)
What happened Sunday was not supposed to happen.

sundaypeekBigDadGib.net had a tremendous spike in hits on Sunday and my research has concluded that it all happened after I ‘Stumbled’ an article that was posted on BigDadGib.net. Apparently, I am not allowed to ‘Stumble’ my own pages, but it allowed me, thus it got hit 600 times. Was it because I reviewed one of my own post?

To make sure my evaluation was correct, I ‘Stumbled’ another post on BigDadGib.net. Again, it got hit 180 or more times. I did this three more times (note the first five in the graphic) before it would not allow me to review (‘Stumble’) any more of my own work. When all was said and done, I had 1333 hits for the day, about 1200 more than my daily average.

The ability to review and post your own work on Stumbleupon is not allowed and it is designed to stop this from happening, but in this case, it let me slide. I have reviewed their ‘terms of service’ and resolve not to do this again.

That explained this one day surge. I had to make sure of the source because BigDadGib.net is investigating BlogRush and I needed to be certain that this incident had nothing to do with BlogRush, and it did not.

BigDadGib.net Investigates BlogRush

Posted by: Gib@CBO | Comments (4)

As you may know, our gallivanting gang of groovy geeks are looking into BlogRush once more.

Going into this second phase of testing, we were very pessimistic that there is any good in having BlogRush on your site. To keep the data as fair as we know how, here is what we are doing:

  • We are keeping our own visits to a minimum.
  • We placed a counter under the BlogRush widget on the same day the test started. Feel free to click on the stats button of counter.
  • We are collecting data from 1&1 (our hosting server). We will share as needed.
  • We are collecting data from WordPress.com, the stat source for WordPress.org self-hosted sites. We will share as needed.
  • We are collecting data from BlogRush. We will share as needed.

Today, Dec 16, 2007, something big happened.  Blip?

BlogRush or Stumble… I don’t think BlogRush has anything to do with it!
