Blogging 101
A basic look into the blogging world by: Gilbert Purtee
WHAT? (according to Wikipedia)
A blog (an abridgment of the term web log) is a website, usually maintained by an individual, with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.
Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (artlog), photographs (photoblog), sketchblog, videos (vlog), music (MP3 blog), audio (podcasting) are part of a wider network of social media. Micro-blogging is another type of blogging which consists of blogs with very short posts. As of December 2007, blog search engine Technorati was tracking more than 112 million blogs.[1] With the advent of video blogging, the word blog has taken on an even looser meaning of any bit of media wherein the subject expresses his opinion or simply talks about something.
So, from what we have just read, a blog can be many things to many people. What it can be for you depends on your needs.
Why? (according to BigDadGib.net)
I say, "Why Not?"
A blog is a simple way to express yourself. With a minimum amount of effort, a person can write (post) an article each day in about ten minutes (even if your sick in bed).
Our United States Constitution affords us the right to say what we want, when we want. A blog is a public forum for saying just how you feel about current affairs, politics, the kids, your hubby (or wife), your job, your shoes, your dog and more.
As it has been said before, you will never know until you try. So again I say, why not?
So, you want to try your hand at having your own blog? Let us look at the next step.
Blogging and bloggers are not new. They have both been around for awhile. You can ask anyone of them, "Where should I get my blog?", and they each will give a different answer.
For the money, ease of use, support and over all "great" rating, I recommend Blogger.com. The price? Free Easy? Very Looks Good? Yes.
There are others and I have tried them all… here is the short list
The above listed blog host are free, very simple, easy to use, complete with support forums, FAQ sections and lots of options. Did I mention FREE? Yes.
So, again I say, "Why not?" Can I help you? Is there more you want to know? Ask… that’s what I am here for.

Note: We use Gravatars on BigDadGib.net, they are little icons that appear next to your name on this site and on many others. You can get a Gravatar account for free and any other site that supports it will show your avatar too!

Don’t forget to stress syndication, submit content to Google, Digg, Yahoo, Ask.com and the like…
And the importance of TAGS for your posts can’t be stressed enough…
TAGS and Syndication, that will get your blog decent placement on the search engines..
I’ll add that to my next Blogging 102 post.
