The Crusade Against Howdy?
Take the politically correct plunge and get rid of the “howdy.”
By: Gilbert Purtee
A new article posted on Weblog Tools Collection by Jeffro2pt0 delves into the realm of craziness that can consume some people. At the top of the administration page on my WordPress control panel is the phrase, “Howdy, BigDadGib. [Sign Out, My Profile].”
It is apparent by reading the following article that not all users of WordPress like the greeting. Here is what it says…
It seems as though the word Howdy, is not liked by many people in many places. I’ve been monitoring an ongoing discussion taking place about the subject of the word Howdy being used in all instances of WordPress, despite the locality of the end user. The discussions have ranged from “Not everyone greets each other by saying Howdy” to “Whats the big deal about the word Howdy anyways, it’s not like it breaks WordPress”. The good news is, because WordPress is open source, there is generally someone out there who has the skill and know how to put together a solution for even the most mundane problems.
This brings me to the “No Howdy Plugin” created by Ozh. No Howdy provides you with the opportunity to change the text in that area of the WordPress administration panel, or you can completely remove the text from appearing in the first place.
To use this plugin, copy the text from the link above and paste it into Notepad or your favorite code editor such as Dreamweaver. Save the file as no_howdy_plugin.php and then upload the file to your plugins directory. Activate the plugin from within your administration panel and you’re all set. In order to customize the plugin, edit the plugin file by changing the word (Bonjour) to the text that you would like to have displayed.

I think this goes a little far, don’t you?

I use the ‘H’ word all the time as did my folks. My grandma always said “Howdy-Do” She was from Missouri and Nebraska, but she called them Missoura and Nebraski. I never asked why. She was grandma and she could talk however she wanted. We respected her.
Yes I think he’s taking it too far. If he doesn’t like the word, maybe he should just rename his blog, “NO HOWDYS HERE”
Ok I said what I think. I’m done now.
Oh yeah, Howdy, BDG!
I think there are more important things to be fretting about. Don’t you?
I think somebody has too much time on their hands, that’s what I think! I say “howdy” all the time, or the rural Arkansas pronunciation, which is “hidey”.
Hope your weekend is a good ‘un!
Love and hugs,
Diane
MM… we called them Misery and Nabrasker.
Down here, we just like to say ‘Hay’ while that really gets some of them there northern people riled up for some reason.
I will use the greeting I am used to using, as will probably everyone else out there. It all means the same thing: “I’m glad to meet you. Let’s talk.”
I hope your Christmas was good. I made it through mine again this year without feeling too much like the poor boy in the rich family. A number of posts among Christian bloggers focused more on the meaning of Christmas, not the materialism. It’s good news.
In the end, however you greet people, if it encourages them to open up and talk sincerely, then the greeting is effective. You have a bullseye shot there, Diane J.
Man - we have got to lighten up people!
In Him,
Henry
You thought I was gonna tell em to kiss something else huh?? LMAO…
